OB Visit #3

I went for my third OB visit today. I have gained more weight since the last visit than I care to mention! Puke! I was proud of the fact that I had lost weight between my first and second visit. The whole not feeling like everything there is to eat will make you throw up has pros and cons. So I feel better, but the numbers are increasing. My blood pressure was good and even though they told me what it was twice, I still have no recollection of what either nurse said. The baby's heartbeat was 141. The biggest news was they moved up the ultrasound date to find out boy or girl from May 11 to May 4! Something about them wanting to do it right at 20 weeks. That is fine, I thought it was neat for it to be on the 11th because that is our 15th wedding anniversary. So we will know pink or blue a week early! I am still hoping against hope for girl. Especially when I look at the cute smocked Christmas dress or the cute little Halloween outfit hanging in the closet. Madalynn is convinced it is a girl since she wished on a star for it to be a girl! Jack wants a boy to "hang out with him." Jeremy thinks boy since I was sick this time and last time and last time resulted in Jackson. I think he may be right, but I can hope for a few more weeks!

Spring Break 2011

Well, we returned from the big Spring Break in Tennessee last Friday. We had planned to leave on Monday of last week, but a huge storm front stretching from southwest of Tennessee all the way up here moving in the exact direction I needed to travel changed that. We decided to ride out the storms at our house rather than a ditch somewhere along the way. It was a good call. Several towns along our path sustained lots of trees down and power lines down. One town didn't get power back until about 3 days later.

We left going down on Tuesday morning and had pretty weather the entire time we were there! I wasn't prepared for how sunny and warm it would be. I took mostly long sleeved shirts and packed no sunscreen. Afterall, we left cold rainy Kentucky where the high hadn't been above 40 degrees in weeks! So my kids wore the few short sleeved shirts I took with us and the boy got a pretty bad sunburn on his face. The kids had a ball though.

Madalynn got to go do "errands" with Granny Peggy. That is code for going to any small town store (Fred's, Dollar General, Piggly Wiggly) and getting to buy stuff. They came home with makeup, a diary, Fruity Pebbles, and gum on one trip. Madalynn's Aunt Beth took her and her little girl Ryan to Chickasaw State Park one day for a picnic. Madalynn and I spent one night at Jenna's new house. They have everything finished and got a bed for the room upstairs for us. At least partly for us, anyway. We had supper at Bell's Drive-In (Their chocolate shakes are the best in the world!) one night and dinner at Jenna's house the last night we were there.

The boy was more interested in riding various horse and buggy/wagon combinations to the church playground up the road. He and Pa Lonnie try to spend every minute together. They both got to do what they wanted and loved every minute!

I had a really good visit with my Aunt Patsy and looked through a bunch of old pictures. I got to eat lunch with my sister one day too. We had an uneventful drive down and back which is always a relief. I always worry about car trouble and flat tires and what-ifs. All in all it was a good visit, short but good.

February- March Catch-up

Alright, time to finally catch this blog up! After all, it is supposed to be a journal for our family. I'd like for it to be a more complete story. Instead of a story with entire months missing. So here goes a catch up of epic proportions.

My last post was before I had a 7 year old daughter! We did it up big this year, or at least big for us. We began the day with donuts at a local donut shop! (I asked her what she wanted for breakfast if she could have anything, thinking it would be something I would cook. Wrong! What can I say, my girl likes to eat out.)

It wasn't so bad though. It is within sight of her school, so it didn't take a lot of extra time. I dropped her off  and then went to make cupcakes to take to school later that afternoon.

Then that night I cooked her favorite for her birthday supper..."pink macaroni and cheese". Which is actually called Five Cheese Penne, but she's called it Pink Macaroni and Cheese since she was about 3, so why correct her now? We opened presents and then had ice cream cake.

Then two days later we had the big birthday bash at Bounce U!

This time they let us use one jump room for 45 minutes and then go to another room we'd never been in before for the other 45 minutes.

It was great! Jack even got in on the fun.

Two years ago, she and a friend with the exact same birthday had a joint birthday party there and he was terrified! Someone had to hold him the entire time! I guess it was the sound of the air compressors that keep everything blown up.

Some kids got so tired that they had to stop and take a break!
We had a Hello Kitty theme for this party.

I should have done pizza as well as cake, since it ended up being during lunch, but I was trying to be thrifty and honestly didn't think about it till it was too late.
She got a lot of crafty type of gifts which is just what she likes.

We swung by Qdoba (our favorite) on the way home and then Mama went home and crashed!

I forgot to mention that we had soccer and gymnastics that morning and of course this same day was picture day and we had to be there 30 minutes early.

So this made for a long day and very tired kids that night. The kids had a great time, which is what is important.

In other big news,  we will be having one more! It is due September 18. I wanted one born in the summer so that I wouldn't have to drag it out to take bigger people to school and expose it to numerous germs, but oh well. I am excited. I would love another girl to dress up in all Mady's sweet little things, but I have a feeling it is a boy. I wasn't sick with M, I was until the 4 month mark with J, and I have been sick this time. So, I am still hopeful, but based on prior experience, not so sure I'll get my wish. I have the sweetest little smocked Christmas dress and another little Halloween outfit that I would love for a little one to get to wear. If it's not a she, some lucky person will be the recipient of those gifts!
I have been to the doctor twice. I was very nauseous every day till about a month ago. I didn't have morning sickness so much as all day nausea and major nausea from 4-8 pm. We have been to Wednesday night church so few times that I am totally ashamed! What makes it worse is I teach preschool with a lady that has been Jack's Wednesday night teacher this past quarter. She sees me on Tuesdays, but never on Wednesday nights! I know she thinks I am a total slacker. This is just one of the times it would be great to have a spouse who attended church or at least a church that was close enough to drop the kids off and then come back and pick them up. Not that that is even a good idea in this day and age!
Anyway, the nausea kept me from gaining a ton of weight and looking majorly pregnant with my third. I even lost 3 pounds between my 1st and 2nd visit. Alas, food isn't so disgusting to me anymore. Now I just have occasional days of nausea, instead of every day.

Madalynn also had her first slumber party! (The kids call them sleepovers, but I like slumber party better. Having attended several in my life, I know there is much more partying going on than sleeping!) She had a great time!

Both kids have been sick since my last post. Madalynn with just a fever and general yuckiness. Jack with full blown strep throat. He missed almost a week of school and we both missed a day of Building Blocks preschool.

Now we all seem to be on the mend, if we could just get rid of this cold weather. As I was uploading pictures, I heard sleet hitting the windows! We have spring break next week and we are ready for Spring Break weather!

Random

So I have spent the vast majority of the last week feeling particularly yuck. As in not just the normal yuck I had been feeling for a month, but a few notches higher than that. I think it is sinus because I would love to drill a hole under each of my eye sockets and let all the crud that seems to be trapped up there free. I have tried the netti pot, but it hasn't been much use. It just makes me sneeze while I am doing it. I have a list of meds that I am finally heading to the CVS to purchase later today. I am dreaming of feeling loopy instead of like I would feel better minus my head. My yuck has resulted in a house that hasn't been cleaned in about a month. Thankfully, the one good thing about all this snow, is that it keeps my grandparents-in-law from visiting every other week. Otherwise, the dirtiness of this house would be stressing me out majorly.
I had to call in sick for preschool today, which I hate. I realize I only teach for an hour, but I take it seriously and I really enjoy it. Finding a sub on the morning that you need them is my equivalent of begging for money. I hate it. You hate to call too early, because they may be nestled snug in their beds. Then again, you can't wait too long because they have to have time to get ready and get there. Who wants to get a call to sub? No one that's who. I feel guilty for even asking. Who wants to go be with a bunch of kids whose names you don't know and can't seem to remember even after they tell you while trying to follow a routine that you are totally unfamiliar with, all while being told, "That's not how we do it!" So I took the wiener way out. I texted and emailed. After all if you can hear a cell ring, you can probably hear it ding when you receive a text, right? Most of us check our email obsessively, they are just as likely to actually read that message in the next 30 minutes right? If it wasn't for everyone's paranoia over "When will the kids ever get out for the summer?" I wouldn't have had this problem. I never dreamed Fayette County would have school today.I thought we'd get a delay at the very least. They were calling off school if it did anything and that resulted in about 20 snow days, and everyone complained. So they went one day they really should have stayed home and people complained even more about that. So now it's like they flip a coin about 7 am and just see what happens. I wish I could have been at preschool, but I'll put it like this. I came home from dropping Madalynn off at school, came in the door, sat down on the couch, and laid over while still wearing my coat and fell asleep for the next 2 hours. Poor Jack has definitely reached the recommended daily allowance of TV viewing for a four year old today.
On to other things. I love the show Teen Mom 2. I am not advocating becoming a teen mom, but there is just something that draws me to that show. I like the couple Corey and Leah, the ones with twins, the best. I see Janelle as a train wreck barreling down the tracks, but with a mom as annoying as hers, who can blame her? There's a few more, the spoiled one whose dad pays for everything but daddy doesnt' know the ex boyfriend has moved back in to the house HE (the dad) is paying for. Kailyn whose own parents seem to have nothing to do with her, so she has to depend on her baby's daddy and his family. Only she can't seem to figure out she has to get along to get along, since they are her only option.
I started on the taxes last night. At least I started getting things organized for the people we pay to do the taxes. I am no math wizard and you couldn't pay me to try. I am going to make an attempt to get them done in plenty of time this year. Usually we wait until early April to get them turned in and let the accountant run that race.
Well, that is all the excitement from around here. I am off to take my second nap of the day.

Snow Days and Christmas at Preschool

So it is snowing....AGAIN! This is only about the 14th time since December began, that's all. I think M has only had about 3-4 snow days, but considering the surrounding counties are on snow day 11 or 12, the public pools should open about 2 weeks before school starts back for next fall! That stinks! We had 10 weeks of summer last year with us getting out in JUNE and all and we have had tons more snow this year. While it is nice to have a few cold weather days where we don't have to get up early and be anywhere, I really like having a nice long summer stretching out in front of us. Oh well, no one asked me.

Yesterday I finally got the preschool teachers' late Christmas "present" done. I had bought everyone gifts for Christmas, but since we missed the week before Christmas, then were out 3 weeks for Christmas break, then proceeded to miss another week of preschool, I decided the time for Christmas-y Christmas gifts had passed. So, my new plan was to cook up some soups and take it to preschool so that everyone would have something for lunch. Most of these people don't bring their lunch or take the time to run and get something, so I thought this would be a good deal. Everyone seemed very appreciative and raved about the soups. I made potato soup - which I could eat all day long and chicken tortilla soup. I also fried up some corn tortilla strips to make it authentic tortilla soup and carried some crackers for those that just need crackers with soup. I made it home with one big bowl of potato soup left! So I would say it went over well. It was nerve wracking though since we seem to have snow in the forecast every single week! I didn't want to end up with these massive pots of soup since my kids avoid vegetables like the plague and my husband wants soup about twice a year when the temperature drops below 10 degrees! So Monday night I was like "Do you think we will go to school? Do you?" Since...yes snow was in the forecast for Tuesday...AGAIN! Anyway about 5 pm I decided to just go for it, and if they called school off again I'd just find someone to give it to. I finished up all but shredding the chicken and cooking the tortilla strips about 11:30pm Monday night. I planned to get up early and finish everything and then get ready to teach at preschool. Well, somewhere along the line, I failed to set my alarm so I got up about 30 minutes after I meant to. Which meant my husband could see the panic in my eyes when I was still cooking tortilla strips 20 minutes before I am supposed to be getting kids out of bed. Anyway, I managed to get everything cooked, my self presentable and the kids up, dressed, and ready on time.
I even managed to get a Starbucks and Walmart run in before time to pick up Jack. I have to say though, the Decaf Caramel Brulee Latte is just not as good without the caffeine. :(
I then proceeded to come home and lay down for a quick nap before it was time to pick Madalynn up, which just made me useless and feel even more tired. That's not good when you have dirtied up not only all the dishes in your kitchen, but all your big pots and crock pots as well. Oh, well...maybe we'll get another snow day!

A Slump

I have been in a slump lately.
A spiritual slump.
A fitness slump.
A marriage slump.

For a few months now, I have felt like I should feel closer to God. I should crave it more. I should attend church more, participate more. I should have a better, more righteous attitude and outlook on life. I should want to read my Bible more. I should work harder to make my quiet time in the mornings a reality again. I don't pray enough, I just feel disconnected. I don't know what it is or why. Is it just the devil rearing his ugly head? I know I think about it all the time. Is that the purpose? Am I supposed to understand something that will only come to me through a lot of thought? I hope it passes, I don't like it.

I feel like J and I have been in a slump. We have different ideas about some things. Pretty big life things. I don't like the way he thinks; he doesn't like the way  I think. We've been married a long, long time, but it seems some things don't change like I want them too. I wish I felt like he prayed about things concerning us, concerning our family. He is so busy with work and all the things he is interested in. I just wish I felt we were working for the same goal at the end. I think we are headed in the same direction, just maybe we have different ideas about the work involved in getting there. We are at the precipice of another breeding season. So he is about to disappear for months and months. When he is here, he is so tired he just wants to veg out and watch TV or he falls asleep in his chair. He drops out of our life. I play the roles of both mama and daddy. I have small hopes of things being a little better since we have several secondary vets this year, but I have done this too many times to hold my breath. I wish he had made some time to do something with me. He spent a lot of time at the farm with Jack. He took Mady to a movie. I don't think the two of us have been out for a meal alone in a year. I hate it being like this. Maybe if I could take care of my spiritual slump, I could pray away this problem.

I have also been in an exercise slump. I was doing really well for a long time. I started a few days after Christmas 2009. I didn't try to lose weight, I just wanted to be in better shape. And I was in better shape. My body was stronger. I felt better. I did really well, with few breaks until Thanksgiving 2010. At that time I just got so busy that I didn't make time for it. It is so hard, there are so many other things pulling at our time as mothers and wives and homemakers. We don't feel we should take 30 minutes or an hour for us. I vow to do better. I have to. I have too many health risks to not do what I can to help myself.

Menu Plan Monday..er Tuesday

I am having a week where I actually didn't have a hard time picking out things to cook for dinner this week! Yay! I have been in somewhat of a slump for months, so this is a welcome change! I did get it all planned out yesterday and even filed some of the recipes that had been piling up in my cabinets. When I find a recipe in the newspaper or a magazine that sounds good, I just tear it out. Well I had about 30 recipes that needed to be filed in my recipe binders. So now my cabinet looks much neater and there isn't an avalanche every time I pull one of the binders out!

Here we go...

Monday-        El Grande (Rice, hamburger meat, rotel, lettuce, tomatoes, cheddar cheese soup, topped with corn chips)
Tuesday-        Spinach Salad & French Onion Soup, Pig Cake
Wednesday- Roast, carrots, potatoes, mac n' cheese
Thursday-      Baked Teriyaki Chicken, Rice, Broccoli
Friday-             Bacon Cheeseburger Upside-down Pizza
Saturday-        Leftovers
Sunday-           Leftovers

Christmas 2010 Kentucky Edition

Christmas is over. : ( It is so sad. I thought that this Christmas was one of the best ever and have read this same thought on countless other blogs in the past few days. Maybe everyone cherished what we have more this year, and I don't mean just the things we have. We should all be thankful for our family members, for the jobs we have, for the roof over our heads. We should be thankful that we live in a country where we can attend any church we choose without fear of persecution. Thankful that we have plenty to eat. We are some of the luckiest people in the world, but often it takes some life changing event to make us realize that. Instead of thinking how good we had it before__________. Let's just be thankful now!

On to the Christmas festivities...

I always cook a big meal on Christmas Eve. This year was no exception. I intended to cook a turkey, but got to the store too late in the week to score a bird. So the featured meat was ham. We also had chicken and dressing, sweet potato casserole, bacon wrapped green beans, au gratin potatoes, Mrs. Schubert's rolls, chocolate chip pie, and apple pie. (I have decided to make it my goal of having the meal earlier next year.) We didn't eat until around 7:30 because someone forgot her Site to Store order at Walmart until 5:30 Christmas Eve! So between cooking 8 things that all needed to be cooked in the 1 oven we have and taking a shower, I also had to fit in a quick trip to the Walmarts!
After the meal, we opened the presents from us to the kids.

By the time we did this and everyone played with the toys it was after 9. Time for bed. We were both ready to drop, but Santa had failed to assemble the sweet wooden kitchen the kids got for Christmas. So long story short, we were up until about 1 am.
The kids were up around 7:30 am to see what Santa brought!Everyone was pleased with everything they got. I bought more toys this year than I usually do, but this year I thought more about how they won't be little long.

The rest of Christmas day was pretty quiet. We ate french toast,  leftover breakfast casserole, and bacon for breakfast. The kids cooked many, many meals in their new kitchen. Jeremy and I weren't feeling too good, so we both laid around and napped during the day. He and Jack went out to the farm for a bit that afternoon.
I appear to have developed a nice cold and haven't been out of the house other than to take the garbage out, in 3 days, so I'm off to bed!

We will miss him...

Well, we have returned from doing one Christmas and I am gearing up for another! We left on Sunday morning to go to Tennessee for a couple of days to do our Christmas with the family. Unfortunately, we also had to attend another funeral. I found out Saturday morning that my mother's youngest sister's husband, Johnny Wayne, had a massive heart attack during the early morning hours and had passed away. I was stunned. I know any of us can go at any time, but I was still floored. My aunt never had any kids of her own, although she has two step-children and 2 grandchildren. They weren't a mushy, gushy couple, but I know he loved her so much. He had a great sense of humor, but you often couldn't tell if he was joking or not. He had faults, as we all do, but was a good man.
I am not a big crier in front of people, but I couldn't stop during JW's funeral. I cried and cried and cried! I can't imagine how lonely my aunt will be now. I hate that for her so much. She is a widow and is so young. she was close to my mom and she's been gone for 8 years. Both of her parents are gone. I know she is a tough lady and I hope she makes it OK.
It is especially hard here at Christmas time. So be thankful if you have a husband to hug. Most of us are so lucky to have things as good as we do.
