YAY - SUCKS DAY!

Yesterday was a YAY - that SUCKS day. Let me explain. I went to bed Monday night WAY too late.It was more like really early Tuesday morning. So I will take credit for starting Tuesday off badly.

So Tuesday morning I did not want to get out of bed which resulted in me getting up not at 5:30 but more like 6 am. SUCKS! In mommy terms I began the day behind. Then I didn't have time to pump- SUCKS. I didn't have time to feed Lillie Claire her cereal before leaving to take the big kids to school- SUCKS. I didn't have to get anything together for preschool or teach - YAY! So at least that wasn't a problem.

My darling daughter the previous evening had decided to get out one page of homework and do it. Only she had about 3 more pages she was supposed to do! So since we have really been on to her lately about her schoolwork, she tries to get it all done before we leave - but after taking her time eating 2 bowls of Fruit Loops! (As a side note, I tell her all the time she is a girl, she has got to learn to multitask!) So she helps make us nearly late for school because she is now in a panic trying to finish homework she should have finished the night before. This episode was complete with everyone except her in the car and me honking the horn! SUCKS!

My son decided not to get out of bed in time to eat breakfast- SUCKS. So I was supposed to put some cereal in a baggie for him to eat on the way to school. Only, I forgot- SUCKS. So I had to take time to go through McD's drive-thru which meant there was no time for my regular Starbucks run- DOUBLE SUCKS! This was also the last day of preschool, and I was supposed to already have teacher gifts bought, but I had forgotten! SUCKS! So I had to add that to my to-do list for while Jack is at school. Plus, since it was the last day of school, I should have taken my "real" camera so I could take a last day of school picture- except I forgot. Then when I went to take a picture of him with his teachers, my phone had so many pictures on it, that it would not work!!! SUCKS!

I was able to run in quite a few places and get some shopping done. YAY! Miss Lillie Claire didn't cry or fuss while shopping. YAY!

PS.  I found out later I had looked at the wrong day on the lunch calendar and I was supposed to pack Madalynn's lunch! SUCKS!

Where did the time go?

Well, April and May have flown by! I am teaching 3rd and 4th grade girls on Wednesday nights. We have had field trips, school functions, last days of preschool for Jack, spring cleaning, a couple of projects, a trip to Tennessee for Easter, a long visit from the great-grandparents, getting the garden in, mowing, and now preparing for Madalynn's last days of school and kindergarten graduation! :-( Whew! No wonder it flew by!





I always dread the work that goes along with teaching a class, but I also realize that I always learn so much when really looking in depth at scriptures I have read dozens of times. Now if I could just get the girls to be quiet during class!

Madalynn graduates next Thursday night. May or may not have family coming into town. I've got to get on finding out who is coming!
I've got a project I want the kids in M's class to do for the teacher. My co-workers did it for me when I left Piedmont. Each person makes their fingerprint and you write the name underneath. I hope it turns out cute.
I have a couple of friends at church that have had babies that I need to carry food to.

The great grandparents came for a visit about 2 weeks ago. Jeremy talked to them on Wednesday night and they weren't sure if they were coming or not. They said they would let us know on Thursday. Well, they always come in on a Friday so I thought OK, that will give me time to prepare even if they are coming. I had to drive on a zoo field trip for Mady's class on Friday and wanted to clean up my car and had a few more things I had to do. Well, they called Thursday morning and said they were coming...and they were already on their way!!! They were here to keep Jack so he didn't have to go to work with Jeremy, but such short notice! I'm a planner and I have a grand in-law who doesn't eat beef so I usually try to think of what I am going to cook while they are here. Well, this visit we ordered pizza one night and went out for Mother's Day another night. They arrived by 2 pm on Thursday and didn't leave until Monday!





I got my garden in, but we had torrential rains so I think all my seeds have been displaced and need replanting. Jack and I will have to get on it. I need some sweet corn!

I found a small school desk at our Habitat ReStore that I sanded and painted for Mady. I got it for $3. I have also been looking for a piece of furniture for our bathroom. We have a wall that has a nearly full size window and nothing else. I can always use more storage and with it being a bathroom I needed something that didn't have drawers because you couldn't stack anything or openings where you see what you have stored. Who wants to see Kotex and toilet paper? I wanted something with solid doors. I found an old veneer cabinet for $35 at Habitat ReStore. More than I wanted to give, but cheaper than anything else. I sanded and painted that too. I think they both turned out cute. Still looking for a small piece for the small bathroom downstairs. Maybe I will swing by ReStore again! :) BUSY, BUSY, BUSY!!!

How I got to this point

This is just an experiment.

I am sure I won't be able to keep up with chronicling all the things my little ones do on a daily basis. But I have decided to try. (Yes, I realize that I shouldn't begin a sentence with but. (or end one with but either)

There are some really great blogs out there. This is a new discovery of mine. In the past 10 days or so I have discovered the previously unknown world of blogging. Why does a mother of a 2 year old boy and a girl who is 5 going on 15 have time to read blogs you ask. Two words...winter weather.

I grew up in western Tennessee. (GO VOLS!!!) I am a "REAL" southerner. I remember one "major" snow in my entire childhood, as well as one big ice storm. When my husband entered vet school and moved us to the other end of the state, we got a few decent snows in the 3 1/2 years we were there. We lived in Texas for a few years and experienced a very cold wind many days, but usually only a light dusting of snow once or twice a year.

A few years ago, we moved up north. Central Kentucky that is. My husband and I have lamented before that you know we are living too far north when you can be in Cincinnati, Ohio in an hour and a half. You can be in our hometown in Tennessee or in Chicago in the same amount of time. In my world that just sounds crazy! Well, as all you geography buffs are well aware, Kentucky borders Tennessee on the north. Up until this point we have had relatively similar weather conditions. Not so this year! I am now enjoying week 2 of cabin fever. Last week it was 4-5 inches of freezing rain, sleet, snow, and a little more sleet. This week it appears that snow and lots of it are on the agenda. This morning when I left to take the kids to school, nothing. By 11 am the roads were covered...again. So in an effort for the three of us to make it home alive, I picked them up early from preschool. I had time to run into Gordmans, get my hair cut at Super Cuts, and quickly walk through a discount furniture store before returning to pick them up. I had appointments made and lots of errands to run. Instead, I enjoyed a scant 2 hours of "mommy time".

Tonight I look out on possibly 3-4 inches of snow. Just LOVELY! Now don't get me wrong, I like to sled as much as the next person. I own some great winter clothes. I even bought my kids snow suits. I do not, however, have the need for my kids to "get the wear" out of these snow suits. I have a need for a few "kid free" hours in my week. Snow/Ice = NO SCHOOL. So that is how I got to this point.

I go to my computer and read about other peoples lives in an effort to escape my own for a minute or two. ( I have also been doing some internet shopping, but let's not tell my husband.)

Just look at the snow drifts in the driveway, never experienced that before....
